Vaak vragen mensen mij in de laatste fase om hulp, namelijk de fase waarin ze met een projectplan op zak op zoek zijn gegaan naar fondsen of subsidies en al wat tegenslag hebben gehad. Ze dienen een aanvraag in bij een subsidieverstrekker of fonds en ontvangen een afwijzing. Een enorme domper! Ze hebben er zoveel tijd en energie in gestopt en dan wordt het in één klap afgewezen. Het demotiveert ze om verder te gaan met hun initiatief.

Bij het bekijken van hun plan zie ik dat ze een aantal cruciale stappen hebben overgeslagen in het proces naar fondsenwerving toe. Of dat het verhaal over hun project niet op een heldere, overzichtelijke en concrete manier weergegeven is. Of ik constateer dat ze te weinig gerichte focus hebben op datgene dat relevant is voor het fonds of simpelweg de verkeerde fondsen hebben aangeschreven.

Ook tref ik mensen die al een tijdje rondlopen met een idee voor een maatschappelijke project en ook al gestart zijn met het schrijven van een plan, maar vastlopen wanneer ze op zoek moeten naar financiering. Laatst nog zei iemand tegen mij:

‘Ik ben eigenlijk al best ver; ik heb een plan, maar ik zie zo op tegen dat fondsenwerven. Dan zit ik klaar achter mijn PC, en denk dan: Waar moet ik beginnen? Hoe kom ik erachter waar ik financiering kan aanvragen. Ik krijg er telkens stress van als ik eraan moet beginnen en stel het telkens uit.’
